American Literature Lesson
3 October 2019

Objective: To prove your knowledge of The Great Gatsby in a 50 question reading passage and objective test. (STANDARD RL.1-5)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery on the test by answering at least 41 out of 50 questions correctly.
  
Agenda:
1.      Brief discussion of Chapter 9 – 10 min
2.      Test with scantron – 45-ish min
3.      Brainstorm for Literary Analysis #2, due at the end of the block tomorrow – 30-ish min

Vocabulary Word-of-the-Day: coquetry (noun): the behavior or arts of flirtation

“Mrs. Bogle who was many times a grandmother, but had a blushing air of coquetry about her that cloaked her sunken cheeks” (Hurston 69).

Student Learning Objective: To draw parallels between Janie’s experiences and those observed in the Rita Dove poems. (STANDARD RL.1, RL.2)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by locating and analyzing three common traits between Janie and the speaker in the poems.
  
Agenda:
1.      Notebook Writing with model text: “Poetry Lesson” – 15 min
2.      Discuss/Analyze Chapters 4-5 – 20 min
3.      Student Work time for the following:
a.       Rita Dove Poems – be ready to discuss all poems on Friday, but pick one poem to fully analyze and share that analysis with the class
b.      2 Google Classroom Questions due Friday at midnight
c.       Continue reading Chapter 6 (long!)
