Objective: To be introduced to the characteristics of the Romantic Literary Period.  (STANDARD RL.9)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by taking notes from the Prezi Presentation and be able to recall the main ideas of those notes to a friend. 

Agenda:
1.      Go over the answers to the Death of a Salesman test – 10 min
2.      SSR - 20 min
3.      Introduction to the Romantic Literary Period – Notes/Prezi – 20 min
4.      Introduction to Divergent – 20 min
5.      Independent Reading Time - 20 min

Assessment: Class discussion

Homework: Divergent Chapters 1-2 p. 1-18

1.      French Revolution: a period from 1789-1799 full of social and political upheaval in France
2.      Guillotine [gil-uh-teen or gee-uh-teen] (noun): a device for beheading a person by means of a heavy blade that is dropped between two posts serving as guides; widely used during the French Revolution
3.      anaphora (literary device): the repetition of a phrase at the beginning of consecutive clauses

Student Learning Objective: To be introduced to A Tale of Two Cities, the historical period, and the structure of the novel. (STANDARD RL.1-5, RL.4, RL.6, RL.9

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by recording information on graphic organizers or other notes, as needed.

    • Graphic Organizers to keep characters, their settings, and their relationships with each other straight
  5. Begin reading Book the First, Chapter 1
