American Literature

Objective: To be introduced to the life of Edgar Allan Poe, so we can better understand his literature. (STANDARD RL.1, SL.2 L.1)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by recording known facts and facts learned by the movie on the Know/Learned chart. 

Agenda:
1.      Grammar Quiz #9 (OPEN NOTES!) – 10 min
2.      Introduction to Edgar Allan Poe Movie (with Know/Learned chart) – 50 min
3.      Discuss Divergent Ch. 1-7 - 15 min
4.      Divergent Reading Time - 15 min

    3. France versus England – see map (and consider the relationship between countries)
    4. Graphic Organizers to keep characters, their settings, and their relationships with each other straight
    5. Literary Devices: Couplet, Soliloquy, Paradox, Anaphora
    6. Word of the days
  5. Begin reading Book the First, Chapter 1 – 20 min
  6. Reading time/Finish Midterm Paper – 30 min
