American Literature

Objective: To write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content. (STANDARD W.2)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by satisfying the requirements on the rubric.

Agenda:
  1. Student Workday: Annotated Bibliography #4, due at the end of the block
  2. Optional Extra Credit: Read “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” (handout) and complete the writing assignment: Compare and contrast the author's structure, style, and themes in the two short stories.

Assessment: Annotated Bib #4

Homework: Portfolio due Monday at the end of the block

Objective: To work collaboratively to create and maintain a group “book talk” blog on the chosen literature circle novel. (STANDARD RL. 1-5, W.2, W.6)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by producing two thought-provoking, critical analysis blog posts of their literature circle novel. 

Agenda:
1.            Discuss novel with group – 9:25-9:45
2.            Create and proof-read blogs/Post two blogs by the end of the block – 9:45-10:15
3.            Read independently (or collaboratively) – 10:15-10:45

Assessment: Two blog posts (blogs 3-4)


Homework: Continue reading Literature Circle Novel according to reading schedule set by group
