American Literature Lesson

Objective: To read primary source Realism texts. (STANDARD RI.9)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by successfully answering the questions in the EXIT SLIP.

Agenda:
  1. SSR - 20 min
  2. Go over answers to Grammar Quiz #11 – 5 min
  3. Go over answers to Divergent Test and Realism Test – 20 min

  1. Read Truth biography p. 326
  2. Read “Ain’t I a Woman?” p. 322-323
  3. Answer Discussion Questions p. 324 #2, 4, 5, 6, 8 (10 points)

  1. Read p. 327 all
  2. Read “I Will Fight No More Forever” p. 328
  3. Type III p. 329 Writing Options #1:
10.  “Compare Chief Joseph’s speech with Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Discuss the similarities and differences between them.”
Requirements:
1.               Introduction, support, and conclusion structure. (15)
2.               One quote from each piece to support your opinion. (20)
3.               Fewer than three grammatical errors. (5) (40 points)

Objective: To work collaboratively to create and maintain a group “book talk” blog on the chosen literature circle novel. (STANDARD RL. 1-5, W.2, W.6)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by producing two thought-provoking, critical analysis blog posts of their literature circle novel.

Agenda:
1.      Discuss novel with group – 15 min
2.      Create and proof-read blogs/Post two blogs by the end of the block – 30 min
3.      Read independently (or collaboratively) – 20 min
4.      Begin drafting Argument Essay (due tomorrow)

Assessment: Two blog posts (11-12)

Homework: Continue reading Literature Circle Novel according to reading schedule set by group
