Objective: To review the main events, conflicts, and literary devices in every chapter of Divergent(STANDARD RL.1-4)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by expertly presenting their chapter summary to the class.

1.      French Revolution: a period from 1789-1799 full of social and political upheaval in France
2.      Guillotine [gil-uh-teen or gee-uh-teen] (noun): a device for beheading a person by means of a heavy blade that is dropped between two posts serving as guides; widely used during the French Revolution
3.      anaphora (literary device): the repetition of a phrase at the beginning of consecutive clauses
4.      motif (literary device): recurrent image – the doubles

Student Learning Objective: To be introduced to A Tale of Two Cities, the historical period, and the structure of the novel. (STANDARD RL.1-5, RL.4, RL.6, RL.9)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by recording information on graphic organizers or other notes, as needed.

Objective: (1) To continue the study of Poe, particularly comparing and contrasting the murderers’ regrets in “Cask of Amontillado” and “The Tell Tale Heart.” (2) To prepare for upcoming Divergent assessments (review, test, socratic seminar, and paper) (STANDARD RL.1-2)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by filling in the spreadsheet (EXIT SLIP) to use as a resource for a later writing assignment and being prepared for Monday's class review.
