Objective: To interpret words and phrases as they are used in Bradstreet’s poems, including poetic devices. (STANDARD RL.4)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by orally dissecting a poem in groups and presenting their findings to the class. 
  
Agenda:
1.    Notebook: More specific brainstorm for Creative Piece Part I – “What do I know enough about to write about?” – 10 min
2.    Review Grammar Notes #3 – QUIZ #3 (open note) – 15 min
3.    Poetry terms (review) and Anne Bradstreet poem dissection – 30 min
4.    Discuss HF Chapters 19-20 with a table partner (graphic organizer) – 10 min
5.    Individually, read from textbook, “Poor Richard’s Almanack” p. 117 – 10 min
6.    EXIT SLIP: p. 119 Writing Options #3 – Write three or four aphorisms that express the advice you would give to a freshman.  Imitate Franklin’s style by using crisp, witty language.  – 10 min

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by mimicking Edwards’ structure while changing the content (for the EXIT SLIP). 
  
1.     Notebook: Brainstorm for Creative Piece #1 (I know it like the back of my hand) – 10 min
2.     Grammar Notes #3 with practice clicker quiz – 15 min
3.     Discuss Huck Finn Chapters 16-18 – 15 min
4.     Notes: The Great Awakening – 5 min
5.     Read “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” p. 101 – 30 min
6.     EXIT SLIP: p. 108 #2 – Identify one important problem people have in America today.  Write an Edwards-style sermon urging your audience to take some specific action to solve the problem. – 10 min

OBJECTIVE: (1) To compare and contrast the view of immigrants in the 1700s with those of today. (2) To identify and be able to discuss Huck's numerous conflicts in the first one-third of the novel. (STANDARD RL.3, RL.4)

SUCCESS CRITERIA: Students will show mastery by compiling a list of at least 10 conflicts Huck encounters.  (Preferably, two of each type of conflict, but not a requirement). 

AGENDA:
1.     SSR - 20 min
2.     Discuss Annotated Bibliography Assignment (rubric and sample) – 10 min
3.     Go over answers to Grammar Quiz #2 (re-quiz, if necessary) - 10 min
4.     Read individually from textbook: "What is an American?" p. 66 - 10 min
5.     EXIT SLIP: p. 69 #8 - How much of a person's first culture can or should be retained after he or she immigrates to the United States?  Are there situations in which immigrants should expect this country to adopt aspects of their native culture?  Discuss the potential benefits and drawbacks of retaining a certain amount of one's heritage and culture. - 10 min TURN IN TODAY!
6.     With a table partner, locate MVP's to Chapters 1-12 on graphic organizers, as well as a visual representation of each chapter. - 15 min CAN TURN IN MONDAY!
7.     With a table partner, discuss Huck’s 10 biggest conflicts from Chapters 1-15.  Make a bulleted list of those conflicts.  Sort conflicts into man vs man, man vs society, man vs self, man vs nature or man vs fate. - 15 min CAN TURN IN MONDAY!
8.     Individually, begin reading HF p. 86-104 - remaining time
