Objective: To build relationships while reviewing the eight parts of speech. (STANDARD SL.1, L.1)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by confidently and correctly presenting their posters and passing Grammar Quiz #1 with a 70%+.

Day 1 Vocabulary Word-of-the-Day: frail (adj): easily broken

“He looked as if he were fourteen or fifteen, frail and willow-wild, in tennis shoes and blue jeans” (Hughes 1).

Student Learning Objective: To be introduced to reading and discussing literature from multiple perspectives. (STANDARDS: RL.1)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by using the literary theory resources provided and small and large group discussion to list five benefits of reading literature from multiple perspectives.
  
Agenda:
1.      Word of the day – 5 min
2.      Introduction to Literary Theory Unit (handouts) – 5 min
3.      Read aloud: “The Story of the Three Little Pigs” – 10 min
4.      Read aloud: The True Story of the Three Little Pigs – 10 min
5.      Small group activity: Reading with “lenses” – Read “Thank You Ma’am with the following perspectives - 20 min
6.      Discussion of the value of looking at things/reading texts through different “lenses” – 5 min
7.      Introduction to Feminist Literary Theory – 5 min
8.      Begin reading aloud, “The Yellow Wallpaper” (read half, or as time allows)

Assessment: EXIT SLIP #1: List five benefits of reading literature from multiple perspectives.

Homework: Finish “The Yellow Wallpaper” and be prepared to discuss evidence of the feminist literary theory within the text.
