American Literature Lesson

Objective: To locate and analyze the Romantic characteristics within “Cask of Amontillado.” (STANDARD RL.1, RL.2, RL.9)

Success Criteria: Students will show mastery by locating three Romantic characteristics within the short story and analyzing the significance of those three characteristics to the story.

Agenda:
1.      Time to read – 20 min
2.      Notebook #14 - 10 min
3.      Review the characteristics of the Romantic Literary Period – 5 min
4.      4th and 5th blocks only: finish the last page of “Dr. Heideggar’s Experiment” – 10 min
5.      Read from textbook: “Cask of Amontillado” with EXIT SLIP spreadsheet – 35 min

Assessment: EXIT SLIP spreadsheet (do not turn it in!)

Explain.  - 5 min
3.      Grammar Notes #4 – 15 min
4.      Introduction to Edgar Allan Poe Movie (with Know/Learned chart) – 45 min

3.      Romantic Literary Period Notes - 15 min
4.      Read from textbook: "Dr. Heideggar's Experiment" p. - 40 min
5.      EXIT SLIP: p. 208, Writing Options #3: Look back at the description of Heideggar’s study. Jot down words and phrases from this selection that create a dark, mysterious, or supernatural atmosphere. - 5 min
